Can we trust what Wikipedia says about U.S. involvement in the 1973 coup in Chile? Wikipedia contains a vast supply of information and is one of the largest sources of historical information online. Still, it continues to be misunderstood, and many teachers advise students against using it. However, if students learn to use Wikipedia wisely, it can be a powerful resource for verifying information as well as a starting point for research.
In this lesson, students are introduced to the 1973 coup in Chile and then practice using Wikipedia wisely to investigate information about the role of the United States in the coup.
