Challenging Approaches: Sharing and Responding to Weak Digital Heuristics in Class Discussions

Being able to evaluate online information is a critical digital skill and one that is increasingly taught in schools. Students and teachers may have existing evaluative approaches, both productive and not, and recognizing and responding to these approaches is an important part of teaching digital evaluations.

Based on analyses of a series of lesson videos from six high school teachers, this study, by Sarah McGrew, found that teachers and students regularly voiced weak evaluation approaches that can result in misleading conclusions.
